On the first floor above Gioia, in Californie, L'Olivo is all about the sea: a fish counter, shellfish and a big terrace. Here's what we think.
What if you could almost believe you were by the sea, without leaving Casablanca? That's the promise of L'Olivo. The restaurant is in Californie, on boulevard de la Mecque, on the first floor, just above Gioia. Two addresses, one building, two atmospheres.
Downstairs, a wide-ranging menu. Upstairs, at L'Olivo, the sea is in charge.

As you arrive, you come across a big display of fish and seafood. Lobsters, spiny lobsters, oysters, fish of the day: it all looks tempting. You choose, and it gets cooked.
On the SAM.ma menu, the seafood counter is priced by weight, depending on the catch. Expect 35 DH per 100 g for sole, sea bass, sea bream or pandora. 40 DH for turbot or John Dory. 70 DH for spiny lobster and lobster. 90 DH for king prawns. Best to ask the weight before it's cooked, to avoid surprises.
Coming as a couple? The platters are made for you. The parillada and the seafood platter are 290 DH for two. The Plateau Royal goes up to 450 DH.
For a first visit, a few ideas:
Not everyone likes fish? No problem. The menu also has meat, from a 300 g entrecôte (145 DH) to a 400 g T-bone (230 DH), pasta, poultry and a kids' menu at 65 DH. Desserts are homemade, at around 55 to 75 DH.
The interior has a boat theme. But it's the big terrace that stays with you. At lunchtime, it's a good bet for a meal with family, friends or colleagues. In the evening, it changes character: cooler, more intimate. For dinner for two, that's where to ask for a table.
The atmosphere is chic without being stuffy. You can come with the family or for a special occasion.
L'Olivo is a good address for eating seafood in town. The produce takes centre stage, the terrace is pleasant and the menu offers plenty of choice. Do watch your budget, though: with shellfish priced by weight, the bill can climb fast. On Google, the place showed 3.6 out of 5 from 86 reviews in July 2026. Reviews are mixed, so make up your own mind.
