Do you know B Square in Gauthier? The Berliner kebab that got Casablanca talking has opened a second address. It's at 45, boulevard Bir Anzarane, at the Bassir roundabout, in the Maârif neighbourhood, right next to Derb Ghallef. Same menu, same recipe. We went to take a look.
The Berliner kebab, the reason to go
The Berliner is a kebab in a thick, soft bread, generously filled with meat, raw veg and sauces. At B Square, it comes in classic, minced meat, merguez, tuna or even vegetarian versions. Big appetites will also find XL versions.
The meat is marinated and the sauces are homemade, prepared fresh on site every day according to the brand's website. Everything is made to order.
Menu prices, noted on the SAM.ma listing, stay reasonable:
- Berliner kebab + fries: 49 DH. Same price for the merguez Berliner.
- Döner kebab + fries: 45 DH.
- Minced meat with vegetables + fries: 49 DH.
- Mixed grill plate: 99 DH, with kebab meat, minced meat with cheddar, merguez, kebab bread, Berlin-style salad and fries. To share, or for a big appetite.
Burgers, cheesy fries and mac'n cheese
Not in a kebab mood? The burger menu starts with the cheeseburger + fries at 39 DH. The most loaded, the double cheese egg bacon, is 73 DH. In between, we liked the idea of the goat's cheese, honey and basil burger at 55 DH.
The cheesy fries and revisited mac'n cheese are worth a try. Expect 30 DH plain, 39 DH with a topping: kebab, merguez, bacon or minced meat.
To finish, Speculoos or Nutella tiramisu, brownie and giant cookie are 25 DH. The tiramisù classico is 49 DH. Chocolate, vanilla or strawberry milkshakes cost 35 DH. There are also homemade juices: ginger, bissap or lemon iced tea at 25 DH.
The atmosphere
The dining room is modern. Wood, greenery, a large arched window, and a terrace in front of the black shopfront. You can eat in, with table service, or leave with your order. It's the kind of place you drop by with friends after work, or with family at the weekend.
Eat in, take away or delivered
In a hurry? The bsquare.ma website lets you order online, and the brand also works with delivery partners. On site, your order arrives fast, made to order.
A little tip for customising your dish: the extras are listed on the menu. Fries at 15 DH, cheddar at 10 DH, bacon, merguez, kebab or minced meat at 20 DH. Heinz sauces, ketchup or barbecue, are 3 DH. For an extra soda, allow 10 DH.
In a group, the mixed grill plate at 99 DH is a good starting point. Add a Berlin-style salad at 30 DH and everyone digs in.
Our verdict
Fresh produce, generous portions and prices that stay affordable. We can see why the brand opened a second address. If it's your first time, get the Berliner kebab with cheesy fries. You'll soon know whether you're team kebab or team burger.
The Gauthier address, at 2 bis, rue Khlil Matrane, is still listed on the brand's website. Just pick the closest one.
